Overview
The objective of this project is to renovate and modernize the Science and Engineering Laboratory (SEL) building. This will be achieved by upgrading outdated building infrastructure systems (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection) to meet current code requirements for a teaching and research laboratory facility, renovating interior architecture and replacing finishes, fixtures, and equipment in common areas and potentially in teaching laboratories. Work will be done in phases, commencing in SEL-East, and each phase of work in the eastern portion will address a semi-independent, four story section of the building.
Background
The Science and Engineering Laboratories Building, which opened for use in 1968, is one of the largest buildings on campus in terms of total floor area, with approximately 454,000 square feet. In general, the building comprises two separate four story volumes built under on continuous roof.
